- The annual report card calendar designates dates and times for the electronic entry of grades and the issuance of report cards. A student who receives one (1) or more failing grade(s) shall be ineligible to participate until grades are entered electronically the following marking period at the designated deadline. NOTE: A student will be eligible to begin practice after the deadline for electronic grade entry and able to participate following ten (10) calendar days of practice and the issuance of report cards. For specifics about eligibility, see your athletic director or school administrator.
- The status of eligibility will take effect the next school day following the deadline for electronic grade entry for report cards and interim progress reports.
A student entering grade 9 for the first time shall be eligible for participation regardless of grades received at the end of the previous year. However, if a ninth grade student receives two failing grades at the first interim report, he or she shall be ineligible to participate in interscholastic athletic programs until grades are issued at the end of the marking period.
- If a student withdraws from a class and receives a WF (withdrawn failing), the application of the WF will be applied to the following marking period for semester and full-year courses. This is considered a failing grade resulting in ineligibility. NOTE: A withdrawal before the first 10 school days in a semester course or before the the first interim in a full-year course will not result in ineligibility.
- Participants in an approved alternate education program who receive a passing grade in the same subject(s) failed may have their eligibility status reinstated. The reinstatement of eligibility would occur at the next issuance of report cards. The list of regularly offered summer or evening high school courses is available through your school guidance office. If a course is not listed, it will be offered only if 10 or more students request it, and a teacher is available to teach it.
- All teams are to follow practice guidelines once a player has been reinstated. A reinstated student athlete cannot play until report cards are issued.
College Athletic Eligibility
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has specific guidelines for high school student athletes who wish to be eligible to compete in college athletics. There are four basic criteria which include:
1. graduation from high school with 2
foreign/world language credits earned during
grades 9 through 12;
2. graduation from high school with mathematics
credits through Algebra II;
3. minimum core grade point average;
4. minimum ACT or SAT test score; and
5. completion of 16 core courses.
Planning for college and college athletics should begin in grade nine in order to complete the core courses. Students should register with the NCAA clearinghouse by the end of their junior year. Check with your school counselor for information concerning the specifics of the above criteria.
