A Message from the Superintendent

After a longer-than-usual winter, spring has finally sprung in Cecil County! Spring brings a time of celebration in Cecil County Public Schools. On April 11, we announced the 2013 Cecil County Teacher of the Year to a crowd of over 300 guests at the Rising Sun Banquet Hall. Mr. Steven Luthultz, fifth grade teacher at Holly Hall Elementary School, was selected to represent Cecil County as he moves forward to compete for Maryland Teacher of the Year. We have had great success at the state level with our county nominees reaching finalist status three of the last five years. We are also very proud of the fact that our very own Rhonda Holmes-Blankenship, 2012 Cecil County Teacher of the Year, is the current reigning Maryland Teacher of the Year who was also selected as one of four national finalists.

The spring season also means many budgetary discussions. Our budget has been presented to the County Executive and to the County Council. On May 7, 2013 the public will be able to provide their feedback on the county government’s proposed budget at a public hearing beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the County Administration Building located at 200 Chesapeake Boulevard in Elkton. I encourage our stakeholders to attend this meeting and to voice your support for our schools. It is critical that the county elected officials hear your voice so that they make public education a budgetary priority. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you need any information regarding this event, our budget, or our part of the county’s budget.

As our students work through the last marking period of the year, please encourage them to continue to work hard and persevere through to June! Thank you for your continued support of our students and the Cecil County Public Schools.
